Tourtour and surrounding area
Tourtour - The village in the sky !
Our nearby medieval village of Tourtour is known as “le village dans le ciel” due to its high position (635 m above sea level) and panoramic views.
Tourtour has been officially listed as one of “Les plus beaux villages de France”. It is most attractive with a shady village square, narrow winding streets, eight fountains, a medieval castle, working olive press and fossil museum.
Tourtour has a tourist information office (open daily), a well stocked mini supermarket, a boulangerie and tabac.
During the summer months it becomes a centre for local artists and craftsmen and it has many galleries and small shops.
There is a choice of excellent restaurants and a small market twice a week full of local produce.

The Haut Var
“If you would like to see the most beautiful land in the world, here it is.”
(Pierre August Renoir)
The Haut Var boasts some of Provence’s most sensational scenery including Europe’s “Grand Canyon”, Les Gorges du Verdon. Picture postcard villages and towns rich in Provencal architecture have been witness to an eventful past. The mountain air is filled with all the perfumes of Provence, and the coast with its bleached beaches and wild rugged cliffs is only an hour away. Les Marjolaines is situated exactly midway between the coast and the mountains.
As well as offering complete rest and relaxation there are plenty of activities on offer
• Walking and cycling in abundance
• Free tennis for all guests
• Enjoy picnics on the beaches at the Lac St Croix and hire windsurfing boards, canoes, pedaloes and yachts
• Visit Les Gorges du Verdon (the Grand Canyon of Europe) and walk, rock climb or kayak. White water rafting and various extreme sports are available if you are not fainthearted!!
• Visit the many picturesque villages all within a short drive - Moustiers, Villecroze, Aups, Salernes, Lorgues, Entrecasteaux, Flayosc to name but a few.
• Markets - there is one nearby every day!
• Visit some of the many vineyards which offer tastings and tours
• Golf, fishing, horse riding and mountain biking are also available.
• The wonderful beaches of the south coast - St Tropez, St Aygulf and St Maxime - are only an hour away.
• In the winter you can ski at Isola or Val d’Allos, less than 2 hours drive.
• The lavender fields of Valensole are in full bloom in June and July and are just about an hour away. They are well worth a visit.
